My own generation

I have always believed that I was so lucky to be part of this generation. Why?

Ask anyone who is born in the 80's how he spends his afternoon during summer vacations, without thinking he'll say "pinipilit patulugin para raw tumangkad." Then after FAKING his afternoon nap, he goes outside, plays patintero or langit-lupa with his uhugin friends. Then because of peer pressure, he whines to his parents asking them to buy him Atari or Family Computer. We had our own share of bruises, scrapes, kuto and pawis from all the outdoor games we invented and could think of. But on the other hand, we got to be the first to experience the mother of Counterstrike, Ragnarok and what have you...FAMILY COMPUTER (Mario Bros, Elevator Man, MInesweeper etc.).

Ask him what he does after school. Albeit knowing his folks would get mad if he buys fishballs, tukneneng, mangga at bagoong outside the school building for fear of Hepa B or Cholera, he couldn't care less and still spends his baon on those. Not to mention the poor brightly painted chicks and the goldfish suffocating in a plastic bag.

Ask him what his favorite shows are as a kid. I bet Bioman, Shaider, Teenage Mutants Ninja Turtles, Voltes V, Rainbow Brite, Ang Munting Prinsesa, and even Takeshi's Castle will be mentioned.

For the girls, amidst pimples sprouting everywhere, they can't help but squeal with great pleasure whenever seeing Backstreet Boys or Nsync. Depression and frustration attack when news broke that Spice Girls are gays. Almost all of them idolizes the twin sisters Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield and has numerous collections of Sweet Valley Kids, Twins, High, University and Saga.

Of course, we have the never ending wars between metal and hiphop, Eheads and Rivermaya (I personally think Bamboo is still the better man. Sorry to Rico's fans)), Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan, Gimik and TGIS.

I still have lots of things I can think of. But I would not want anyone's head falling off coz of boredom. I'm just proud to say that I'm part of this generation..well, minus the political instability, coup 'd etats, corruption. Nevertheless, I would not want to lose hope. Just like how I never lose hope that a "patotot" in a patintero game would save us from losing.

On pressure, drag queens, and Sentro

Haven't had time to blog lately. Pressure with a capital P is what people see plastered at my face these days. I needed to come up with $100,000 for the month of June! But thanks to The Holiday Inn San Mateo, CA's $40,320, I made it! HAHA! And for this month, guess what...the goal is $300,000! PAKSHET! Odd thing, I'm enjoying every second of the day. Well, minus the getting-out-of-the-bed stage..

It was Cha's birthday last Thursday. We woke her up and surprised her with a cake, salad, sandwich and a gay version of "Happy Birthday To You". Happy Birthday ulit, sungit!

Anyway, speaking of gays...We watched CONNIE AND CARLA last week. It was about 2 women who were witnesses to a crime and to hide from the bad people who were trying to "shut them up", they applied as DRAG QUEENS in California. The movie was hilarious! My favorite character? Of course.. Lee/'N Cream (Alec Mapa), the Filipino drag queen. Gugulong ka sa kakatawa. He has this Filipino accent that we are famous for. We can't deny it. We are good imitators but our tongues are "tatak Pilipino". The movie presented this with no offense meant, though. Galing!

"So (pronounced like saw), are we going to kontinyu with the pinale?"

Crowd goes: Whaaattt?

Other American drag queens: "The FINALE"

Watch it, watch it!

I've been dying to blog about my new favorite restaurant...Sentro 1771. I'm not sure if there are branches other than the one in Greenbelt 3. I'm not good in describing food(s). But is "orgasmic" enough? They serve Filipino food with a modern twist. Who would've thought of mixing tapa, tuyo (dried fish), lettuce, onion and vinegar? Sarap! Healthy pa! Their best-seller is Sinigang. We've already tried Seafood in Tamarind soup and Corned Beef Sinigang. They let you taste the soup first to check if the flavor suits you. Cool, eh? Let it be as maasim as you want it to be! We've also tried the baked clams which were oozing with cheese!YUM! There's also the shrimp which is a lil bit sweet, crunchy on the outside but tender on the inside. I even ate the tails(?)! Their Crispy Pata is boneless (that's how they described it). The meat is cooked to perfection, at syempre ang balat na sobrang lutong! The sauce is great. The usual vinegar sauce for Crispy Pata but I think they add wine on it. I always order Sago't Gulaman for beverage. And hear this, it's bottomless! And for dessert (my favorite part!), we have creme brulee. Now, delectable, heavenly, luscious, palatable etc...won't do justice! It was simply the BEST--understatement! The service is excellent. The staff makes sure you're enjoying everything. Try eating in this restaurant! Share this experience with your special someone. (I did a couple of times with my Cha-Cha).
